What to do if you find out you are infected?
|
The realisation that you are infected by HIV may change your life dramatically. You may experience fear, a feeling of loss, depression, denial, anger, concern. Although treatment is already very efficient, although you may not experience any health problems or symptoms or you may be rationally very well prepared for the news about the infection, you will certainly need intense counselling in addition to health care and good support from your closest friends and relatives. You will have to change or adapt your hopes and plans for the future, your partnerships, career and family planning. Such adaptations are the only way to face the infection and the resulting disease, while still living a satisfied and productive life.
