Regardless of whether you are a man or a woman, heterosexually or homosexually oriented, the risk of contracting HIV will depend on the probability that the person you have sexual intercourse with is infected. The risk is greater when this person:

• has injected illicit drugs,
• has had unprotected sexual intercourse with persons from countries with a high prevalence of HIV infection, or comes from a country with a high prevalence of HIV infection,
• has had unprotected heterosexual sexual intercourses with numerous random partners,
• has had unprotected homosexual sexual intercourses with numerous male partners.

An HIV infected person can look totally neat and healthy.

If you are not sure that you want sexual intercourse, you are better avoiding it.
