Sexual intercourse is a responsible decision of both partners in which neither of the partners may force the other into sex. Even if you have had sexual intercourse, this does not mean that you must consent to it every time.In the European Union and in Slovenia, half of young people have their first sexual intercourse at the age of 18. Most decide for it out of love or infatuation. A survey in Slovenia showed that young people who begin sexual intercourse too soon, whether out of curiosity or by chance, with the wrong person, under peer pressure or under the influence of alcohol and/or other drugs, frequently regret it afterwards. Sixteen percent of men and as many as 50% of women who had their first heterosexual intercourse before the age of 16 believed that they had their first sexual intercourse too early. Seventy-six percent of men and 72% of women thought they should have known more at the time of their first sexual intercourse. Thirty-fice percent of men and 48% of women among these were of opinion that they should have known more about contraception, while 48% of men and 41% of women thought they should have known more about STDs (Klavs (2006): Results of the National Survey on Lifestyle, Attitudes, Health and Sexuality). If you need advice concerning sex and love, it is best to ask a person you can trust; and you can always turn to your personal physician or gynaecologist. |

There is no precise answer, since the decision is the choice of an individual and a consequence of his or her wishes, especially personal maturity. The decision to enter sexual intercourse is often too early, so the rule is the later, the better.
