Hepatitis C
|
Although Hepatitis C is present in bodily fluids, the risk of infection through sexual intercourse is considerably lower than with Hepatitis B. It is mostly transmitted through contact between an infected and an uninfected person’s blood (e.g,. injecting drugs with the same syringe, sniffing cocaine through the same “straw”); it may also be transmitted in rough unprotected forms of anal sex. An acute infection mostly progresses without any symptoms; in general, it resembles the symptoms listed under Hepatitis B. Depression and exhaustion often occur; 80% of infected persons develop the chronic form, which may result in liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. |
