"Spread the word, not the virus!" is the slogan of the campaign of prevention and control of HIV infection among young people in Slovenia. The campaign was organised as a response to the growing number of new HIV infections in Slovenia and is the result of cooperation among the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Ljubljana, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia, the Institute of Public Health of the Republic of Slovenia, and the non-governmental organisations Škuc, DIH and Legebitra. The campaign was designed in June 2009 by a group of six students of the fourth year of the Faculty of Social Sciences in Ljubljana under the mentorship of Assistant Professor Dr Tanja Kamin, as a part of regular tutorials at the faculty. The project has been joined by other organisations, such as CARS and DŠMS. Students Meta Galjot, Nina Jakhel, Zala Andrina Logar, Aljaž Pogorelčnik, Aleš Udir and Grega Zakrajšek donated their ideas for the public good with a wish to make as many young people as possible aware of the risks of HIV infection and encourage more responsible sexual behaviour. The campaign has started in December 2009 and will last for one year. The resulting solutions
and planned activities are an example of the practice of cooperation among different institutions and individuals for public health objectives. |
